LaToya Renee Carpenter, a 39-year-old African American woman from Columbus, OH, tragically lost her life on April 17, 2021. She was killed in a drive-by shooting while driving near the Refugee Center shopping plaza in Truro Township, southeast of Columbus. Carpenter was on her way to pick up her 11-year-old daughter when a stray bullet struck her in the head as she drove past a vigil being held for another victim who had been killed at the same location a year earlier.
