Shawn A. Wright, a 45-year-old male of unspecified ethnicity, tragically lost his life on May 24, 2021, in West Jefferson, Ohio. Wright was one of four victims found in a shooting incident at an apartment on Jackson Street. The other victims included Andrew Thomas Swindall, 45, Jamie Danielle Lavender, 30, and Leon Billy Daniels, 38. Wright was discovered outside the apartment, while the other three victims were found inside.

The incident occurred between 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., and authorities believe it took place on a dead-end road. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Madison County Sheriff's Office were called in to assist with the investigation. Initially, there was no suspect information available, and the motive behind the shooting remained unclear.

In the aftermath of the shooting, John Paul Steckel was identified as the suspect and was later indicted on 21 counts, including murder and aggravated murder charges. Steckel pleaded not guilty to all charges during his arraignment. Authorities revealed that Steckel and the victims knew each other, and robbery was considered a possible motive. Steckel is currently held in the Tri County Regional Jail on a $2.5 million bond, and he could face the death penalty if convicted.

The tragic loss of Shawn A. Wright and the other victims has deeply affected the community of West Jefferson, which had not experienced a murder in years. The investigation into the shooting continues as authorities work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
