Dontae Lamar Maurice Crowder, a 25-year-old Black male from Columbus, Ohio, tragically lost his life on June 26, 2021. On that fateful evening, Columbus Police Officers were called to the 1800 block of East Rich Street at around 9:42 PM following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Crowder suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Grant Hospital, Crowder was pronounced deceased at 10:07 PM.
The investigation into
Crowder's death was taken up by the Columbus Police Department's Homicide Cold Case Unit. The case remained unsolved for over a year until December 22, 2022, when Columbus police arrested 37-year-old Phillip Calloway Jr. in connection with the shooting. Calloway was charged with murder and taken into custody without incident. He is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing in the Franklin County Jail.
The arrest of Calloway brought a sense of relief to Crowder's family and the community, who had been seeking justice for the young man's untimely death. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to solve cold cases and bring closure to grieving families.
