Caree W. Cannon, a 24-year-old man from Elyria, OH, tragically lost his life on July 28, 2021, due to a fatal shooting at Bailey's Bar & Grill. Cannon was found with gunshot wounds by Elyria police officers who responded to the scene at around 10:20 p.m. Despite their efforts to provide first aid, Cannon was pronounced dead at University Hospitals – Elyria.
The incident was described as a senseless act of violence, and Mayor Frank Whitfield expressed deep condolences to Cannon's family and friends.
The investigation into Cannon's death led to the arrest of Ronald Johnson, a 20-year-old man from Elyria, who was charged with complicity in murder. Johnson was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. However, the investigation continued, and on August 2, 2021, the Elyria Police Department announced an arrest warrant for Jajuan Lamont Malone, a 23-year-old man from Lorain. Malone was identified as the primary suspect in Cannon's murder. He was described as a Black man, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. Malone was considered armed and dangerous, and the police actively searched for him.
The case remains under investigation, and the Elyria Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward. Detective Jim Wise has been the lead investigator, and the community has been encouraged to assist in providing any relevant details to help solve the case.
