Daryl Anthony Foster III, affectionately known as "Jay," was a 20-year-old African American man from Toledo, Ohio. On August 7, 2021, Jay was tragically shot and killed following an argument with another man at the Linda & Susan Arms Apartments on South Byrne Road. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m., and despite being taken to St. Vincent Medical Center, Jay succumbed to his injuries.
The suspect in the case, 21-year-old Kedontae Colter, was arrested and charged with murder.
According to court records, Colter was a resident of the apartment complex where the shooting took place. Police took Colter into custody for questioning and later charged him with the crime. He was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court, and his bond was set at $1 million. Colter's trial was set to proceed, but he eventually entered a plea bargain.
Under the plea agreement, Colter pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and received a four-year prison sentence. He was also sentenced to five years of supervised release, during which he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, using intoxicants, and posting negative or disrespectful comments about the victim on social media. Colter's early release from prison was met with dissatisfaction from Jay's family, who felt that the sentence was too lenient.
