On August 21, 2021, Brandon Jeriel Slate, a 30-year-old Black man, was found lying in the front yard of a residence in the 700 block of South Highland Avenue in Columbus, Ohio, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Grant Medical Center, but despite receiving life-saving medical treatment, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 2:52 p.m. This tragic incident marked the 134th homicide in Columbus for the year 2021.
