Kamell Golden, a 15-year-old African American male from Springfield, Ohio, tragically passed away on September 30, 2021. Kamell was a freshman at Springfield High School and was well-loved by his family and friends. He was born on November 18, 2005, to Celeste Sparks and Gerrod Golden. His death was a result of a shooting incident that occurred on September 29, 2021.
The incident took place in the 500 block of Scott Street, where Kamell was shot during what appeared to be a robbery. According to witnesses, Kamell and another individual were conducting a marijuana sale when Travis Pearson, 19, and another juvenile approached them. Pearson allegedly pulled out a gun and placed it against Kamell's back while another juvenile held a gun on the witness. Kamell attempted to flee but was shot in the process. He was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Springfield police arrested Travis Pearson and two other juveniles. Pearson was charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and kidnapping, and was given a $1 million bond. The two juveniles were charged with complicity to aggravated robbery and were held at the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation continued as authorities gathered more evidence and pursued additional charges.
The community was deeply affected by Kamell's death, and grief counselors were made available to students and staff at Springfield High School. The Springfield City School District expressed their condolences and acknowledged the tragic loss of a young student.
Kamell's memory lives on through the love and support of his family, friends, and the community who continue to honor his life.
