Derrick Jermaine Kimble, a 29-year-old African American man from Toledo, Ohio, tragically lost his life on April 25, 2022. Derrick was known for his vibrant personality and passion for music, which he hoped to pursue further. He was a loving father to several children and held a special place in the hearts of his family and friends.

On the day of his death, Derrick was shot in the 400 block of Havre Street in south Toledo. Neighbors reported hearing an argument followed by gunshots, and when they went outside, they saw a woman putting children into a car and driving away. Derrick was administered CPR at the scene but was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The suspect in Derrick's death was identified as Tyrefa Marie Hill, a 27-year-old woman who had been in a past relationship with Derrick. Tyrefa turned herself into the police and was initially charged with murder. However, she later took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. On February 14, 2024, she was sentenced to 11 to 16.5 years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter charge, with an additional five years for a firearm charge.

The case drew significant attention in the Toledo community, and the sentencing brought some closure to Derrick's family and friends. Despite the tragedy, Derrick's memory lives on through the love and stories shared by those who knew him.
