Gerardo E. Massari, a 37-year-old man of Puerto Rican ethnicity, tragically passed away on April 30, 2022, in Lorain, Ohio. Born on April 27, 1985, in Guayama, Puerto Rico, Gerardo was known for his love of motorcycles, gardening, and barbecuing. His death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred in the 1200 block of Oberlin Avenue.
The incident took place around 10 p.m. on April 30, 2022, following what police described as a family argument.
Gerardo was found suffering from gunshot wounds in an alley and was subsequently transferred to Mercy Health, where he succumbed to his injuries. The suspect in this case, Joshua Martinez, a 24-year-old man from Lorain, was indicted by a Lorain County grand jury on multiple charges, including three counts of murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, using weapons while intoxicated, aggravated menacing, and criminal trespass.
Martinez turned himself in to Lorain police on May 2, 2022, after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arraigned on May 3, 2022, and his bond was set at $1 million. Martinez's attorney claimed that his client acted in self-defense, but the prosecution pursued multiple charges to cover different legal subsections.
The case remains under investigation, and the legal proceedings continued as the court sought to determine the full circumstances surrounding Gerardo's death. The community of Lorain mourned the loss of Gerardo, who was remembered fondly by his family and friends.
