MyQuan R. Taylor, a 29-year-old man from Dayton, Ohio, tragically passed away on May 21, 2022, three days after being shot on May 18. Taylor was shot in the lower back and also suffered a graze wound near his right hip. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Taylor's death led to the arrest of Johnny Lee Trigg Jr., a 44-year-old man from Dayton. Witnesses identified Trigg as the shooter, and he was arrested by the U.S.
Marshals Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team a week after the shooting. Trigg was later convicted of murder and other charges. He was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison for Taylor's murder, with additional time for parole violations and other firearm-related charges.
The case involved a SWAT standoff when police initially believed Trigg was inside an apartment following the shooting. After more than six hours, it was determined that Trigg was not in the apartment, but he was later found and arrested. Trigg had a history of prior convictions, including improper handling of a firearm and having weapons under disability.
