Al-Jaheem Ali Brown, a 38-year-old Black man from Dayton, Ohio, was shot and killed on February 20, 2023. His death was the result of a sudden and violent confrontation that took place just after midnight on Oxford Avenue.
According to court documents, the incident began while 28-year-old Keanthony Diantae Strickland was sitting in his car with a woman. Brown, who was the woman's boyfriend, approached the vehicle and started to speak with her.
Strickland then got out of his car, and a verbal argument erupted between the two men.
The dispute quickly turned physical, with Strickland and Brown shoving each other. The woman attempted to intervene and break up the fight, but Brown allegedly pushed her out of the way. At that moment, authorities state that Strickland pulled a gun from his pocket and shot Brown three times in the back. Strickland then drove away from the scene in his 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.
When Dayton police officers arrived, they found Brown lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A few days later, Keanthony Strickland turned himself in to police. He was taken into custody and identified as the man accused of the fatal shooting. As of February 2023, the case was moving through the court system.
