On May 31, 2022, 35-year-old Demarco Dubose, an African American male from Columbus, OH, was fatally shot while driving on West Broad Street near the Interstate 270 interchange. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. when another vehicle pulled up next to Dubose's car and fired shots before fleeing the scene. Dubose, who was driving a white Ford Crown Victoria, crashed into a bridge abutment and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passenger, 40-year-old Roline Williams, also an African American female, sustained life-threatening injuries from the crash and was later pronounced dead at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital.
Following the incident, Franklin County Sheriff's Office detectives launched an investigation. They believed the suspect vehicle was an early to mid-2000 red or maroon Mercury sedan. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the investigation, and detectives checked area businesses for surveillance footage of the shooting.
On June 7, 2022, Franklin County SWAT deputies tracked Pozz Striblin, a 20-year-old male, to a gas station in Mifflin Township. Striblin was identified as the suspect in the double homicide of Dubose and Williams. As deputies attempted to apprehend him, Striblin was shot and killed by the deputies. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The investigation into the shooting was conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and was later presented to a grand jury.
In December 2022, a Franklin County grand jury declined to indict the deputies involved in the fatal shooting of Striblin. The grand jury found no charges against the deputies for their actions during the incident.
The tragic deaths of Demarco Dubose and Roline Williams remain a significant case in Columbus, OH, with ongoing efforts to bring justice and closure to their families.
