On October 2, 2022, 18-year-old Kaaree Hipsher Burton was found dead in the hallway of the Holiday Inn Express in Fairfield, Ohio. The Butler County Coroner's Office ruled his death a homicide, as he died from a gunshot wound. The circumstances surrounding his death were initially unclear, but it was later revealed that Burton was shot by a man who claimed self-defense during an attempted robbery.
