On October 22, 2022, Jamarian Coffey, a 16-year-old male from Akron, Ohio, tragically lost his life due to a shooting incident. Coffey was with another teenager when they encountered Daryeus Jones and Dominic Herring on Dodge Avenue. The confrontation escalated, and both Jones and Herring shot Coffey multiple times, leading to his death.
Following the incident, both Jones and Herring were arrested and charged with aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault.
In November 2022, they were indicted on these charges. Jones, who was 20 years old at the time, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit aggravated murder and other related charges. He was sentenced to an indefinite prison term of 21.5 to 27 years. Herring, who was 22 years old, also pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and received a sentence of 14 to 16.5 years in prison.
The case drew significant attention from the community and law enforcement, with Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich stating that the community is safer with Jones and Herring behind bars. The tragic loss of Jamarian Coffey has left a lasting impact on his family, friends, and the Akron community.
