King's wife mentioned that Combs had confronted her husband several times about his political beliefs.
Austin Combs was arrested hours after the shooting and was later indicted for aggravated murder with a gun specification. He admitted to shooting King several times with a revolver. In March 2023, Combs was declared incompetent to stand trial due to mental health issues, and he was ordered to undergo treatment to restore his competency.
