Constable Jesse Simon Long, aged 38, was shot and killed on April 5, 1909, in Bug Hill Township, North Carolina. Long served as a constable for the Bug Hill Township Constable's Office for four years. On the day of his death, he was in the process of transferring a prisoner to the county jail.
