Edward Charles McConnell, aged 33, was a patrolman with the Asheville Police Department in North Carolina. On July 7, 1911, he succumbed to injuries sustained four days earlier when he was shot by a prisoner he was transporting. The incident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and McDowell Street. McConnell was shot by the prisoner, who had been arrested for stealing two cows from Hendersonville.
