Crystal Suzanne Cantrell, a 16-year-old girl from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on July 17, 1988. Crystal, who was Caucasian, was shot three times in her car after being flagged down by the gunman, Charles Michael Hayes. Hayes, who was 24 years old at the time, claimed he believed he was killing demons. The incident was part of a larger shooting spree that left three other victims dead and five more injured.
