On a summer evening in Detroit, Michigan, the life of 23-year-old Troy Ward, an African-American male, was tragically cut short. On July 8, 2013, Ward was outside Carmen's Liquor store in the 14000 block of Gratiot Avenue when he was shot multiple times. The young father died from his injuries in a city that was grappling with a high rate of violent crime.
