In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 16, 2016, a single act of violence irrevocably shattered the peace of a Detroit neighborhood and ended the life of 26-year-old Seafred Robinson. Known to his loved ones as 'Trey,' Robinson, a Black male, was sitting with a friend in his black Chevy Trailblazer, parked in a driveway on Tuller Street, on the city's west side. It was approximately 1:25 a.m.
when their quiet conversation was interrupted by the approach of two unidentified Black males.
An argument broke out between Robinson and the two men, the nature of which remains unclear. The verbal confrontation quickly escalated to a fatal encounter when one of the unidentified men produced an automatic weapon. Shots were fired, and Seafred Robinson was struck. The two assailants then fled the scene, leaving behind a scene of confusion and tragedy. Robinson's friend who was with him at the time of the shooting was a witness to the sudden and brutal event.
In the aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement was called to the 16000 block of Tuller Street, located between West McNichols and Puritan Avenue. An investigation into the homicide was launched, but the suspects remained at large. A year after his death, Robinson's family, still searching for answers and justice, held a press conference with Crime Stoppers of Michigan. They pleaded with the community for any information that could lead to an arrest, offering a $2,500 reward for tips. His mother spoke of her son not as a statistic, but as a hardworking man who was not involved in drug dealing or gang activity, making his murder all the more senseless to his grieving family.
Despite the public appeal for information and the ongoing investigation, there have been no subsequent reports of arrests or charges in connection with the murder of Seafred Robinson. The two suspects, described only as Black males, have not been publicly identified. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family, who continue to seek closure and justice for the loss of their only son. The community was urged to come forward with any details, no matter how small, with the promise of anonymity, in the hopes of bringing those responsible for Robinson's death to account.
