On August 22, 2006, 20-year-old Sanchase Lamar Beasley was fatally shot during a confrontation on Redwood Avenue in east Charlotte, North Carolina. A 12-year-old boy was also injured in the incident, sustaining a gunshot wound to the foot; he was expected to recover.
Following the shooting, authorities arrested two brothers in connection with the crime. Marquette Battle, 23, and Dominique Battle, 16, were taken into custody and charged with murder.
Both suspects were held in the Mecklenburg County jail and were scheduled to appear in court shortly after their arrest.
Sanchase Beasley's funeral services were held on August 28, 2006, at King's Funeral Home Chapel in Charlotte. Visitation began at 10:30 a.m., followed by the service at 11:30 a.m.
The tragic death of 20-year-old Sanchase Beasley contributed to a particularly violent year in Charlotte, which saw a total of 83 homicides in 2006.
