On April 3, 2010, Tony Alston, a 44-year-old resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, was fatally shot at the front door of his home on Minnesota Road. Alston, a transgender individual, had lived as a woman for over 20 years. After being shot, Alston managed to seek help from a neighbor and described the assailant as a Black man in a gray T-shirt before passing away.
