On July 4, 2014, Raymelle Smith, aged 31, was shot and killed in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the northern part of the city, and authorities quickly identified a suspect. A day after the shooting, police arrested Terry Laney, aged 38, and charged him with murder.
