On July 4, 2014, Raymelle Smith, aged 31, was shot and killed in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the northern part of the city, and authorities quickly identified a suspect. A day after the shooting, police arrested Terry Laney, aged 38, and charged him with murder. According to investigators, Smith and Laney knew each other, but further details regarding the motive or circumstances were not disclosed.
