Melanie Diana McKenzie Ray, a 24-year-old woman from Red Springs, NC, tragically lost her life on January 22, 2009. On the evening of January 22, 2009, Melanie was in her car with her boyfriend, Kevin Marshell Robinson, 23, at 103 Manus Street in Red Springs.
An argument ensued between the couple, during which Robinson shot Melanie once in the head. After the shooting, Robinson drove off with Melanie's body still in the car. The vehicle was later involved in an accident on N.C. Highway 211 between W.D. Locklear and West Carthage roads, west of Lumberton. When law enforcement officers responded to the accident scene, they discovered Melanie's body inside the car.
Kevin Marshell Robinson was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was held without bond in the Robeson County Jail.
