Jason Antiwan Hunt, a 31-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on September 4, 2016, in Red Springs, North Carolina. The incident occurred at a residence on Denny Road, where Hunt had gone with an unidentified woman to retrieve some of her belongings. An altercation ensued involving Hunt, Jonathan Kerry Revels, and Howard Pierce. During the confrontation, Revels shot Hunt, who was the only one injured in the exchange.
When deputies arrived at the scene around 3:34 p.m., CPR was being administered to Hunt. Despite efforts to save him, Hunt was pronounced dead by EMS upon their arrival.
Following the incident, Jonathan Kerry Revels, a 52-year-old male, was charged with second-degree murder. He was taken into custody and held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond. Howard Pierce, a 59-year-old male who owned the home where the shooting occurred, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and was held under a $25,000 secured bond. The investigation revealed that Hunt had gone to the home with the woman to collect her belongings, leading to the fatal altercation with Revels and Pierce.

He was remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, spending time with his dogs, and his passion for art. Hunt lived on Snake Road in Lumberton and was survived by his wife and daughter.
