Aleksander "Lenny" Wysocki, a 74-year-old man from Cary, North Carolina, was found dead on February 14, 2014. The Cary Police Department responded to a call at around 8:45 a.m. and discovered Wysocki in the yard of his home. He was pronounced dead at Duke University Medical Center. of Wysocki. Engel, who was a lecturer at the University of New Hampshire, was tracked down to a motel in Dunnellon, Florida. Authorities surrounded the motel and attempted to negotiate with Engel, but he ultimately took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Engel had allegedly confessed to a family member about the murder of Wysocki before his death.

The investigation concluded with the death of Engel, and no further arrests or suspects were reported. The tragic incident left the community in shock, as it was the second homicide in Cary in 2014.
