Kizmel Kachae Norman, a 20-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on November 27, 2014, in Plymouth, North Carolina. Kizmel, affectionately known as "Mel" by his family, was a beloved member of his community. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 2012 and was recognized as the All State Linebacker of the Year for his high school football team.
He was employed as a machine operator at Diversified Wood Products in Plymouth and was an active member of the Spring Green Church of Christ .
On Thanksgiving Day, Kizmel was walking home with friends when he was shot outside an apartment on Somerset Drive in Plymouth. The incident led to his untimely death. The investigation into his murder revealed that two Fayetteville State University students, Oji Elon Wynn and Michael Dawane Jones, both 20 years old, were arrested and charged with his murder. The suspects were also charged with felony riot. Both Wynn and Jones were arrested on campus and were held in the Cumberland County jail without bond. The police indicated that more arrests were pending as the investigation continued.
The community mourned the loss of Kizmel, remembering him for his beautiful smile and deep dimples. His funeral services were held at Plymouth High School, and he was laid to rest at Toodle's Cemetery in Plymouth. The case garnered significant attention, and the arrests of Wynn and Jones marked a critical development in the pursuit of justice for Kizmel's family and friends. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continued, with authorities working diligently to uncover all the details and bring those responsible to justice.
