The incident occurred around 9 p.m. in the 200 block of Wilson Street, where family members initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks. Shakur had just celebrated his 25th birthday when he was fatally shot.
The investigation into Shakur's death revealed that he was attacked by Terrance Lamont Williams, a 35-year-old male from Jamesville, North Carolina. Williams was charged with First Degree Murder in connection with Shakur's death. Additionally, Walter Phelps, who was present during the incident, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at Williams while he was attacking Shakur. Phelps later accepted a plea deal, reducing his charge to possession of a firearm by a felon.
The Plymouth Police Department, in collaboration with the State Bureau of Investigation, has been actively working on the case. The tragic event has left the community in shock, as such incidents are rare in Plymouth.
