Mirjana Puhar, a 19-year-old Serbian-born model, tragically lost her life on February 24, 2015, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Puhar, who gained national attention as a contestant on "America's Next Top Model," was found dead in a house along with two other victims, Jusmar Isiah Gonzaga-Garcia, 21, and Jonathan Cosme Alvarado, 23. The killings were drug-related, and the victims were discovered shot to death in the Tryon Hills neighborhood of Charlotte.

Rangel-Hernandez, 19, was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Puhar and the other two victims. Authorities stated that Rangel-Hernandez knew the victims and that the killings were drug-related. Rangel-Hernandez was also charged in connection with another murder that took place in nearby Matthews, North Carolina, just days before the triple homicide.
In the aftermath of the murders, the case garnered significant media attention due to Puhar's rising fame from her appearance on "America's Next Top Model." The show's co-producers, Tyra Banks and Ken Mok, issued a statement expressing their deep sadness over Puhar's death, describing her as a vivacious and promising young woman. The legal proceedings following the murders saw Rangel-Hernandez facing trial for his alleged involvement in the killings. Additionally, another individual, Edward Sanchez, was convicted on four counts of first-degree murder, including the murder of Puhar. Sanchez received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole for each of the four deaths. The trial revealed that Puhar's blood was found on Sanchez's boots and clothing, further implicating him in the crime.
