On April 18, 2015, Joe Thomas Jones Jr., an 82-year-old African American male residing at 1396 Janeiro Road in Oriental, North Carolina, was found deceased at his residence. His passing was publicly announced in an obituary, which noted that he was survived by three sons—Jeffrey Jones of Orangeburg, South Carolina; Joe Jones III of the home; and John Jones of Bayboro—as well as a daughter, Debbie Jones Latham of Arapahoe.
