Angel Marie Carlton, a 25-year-old woman from Charlotte, NC, tragically lost her life on December 2, 2015. She was the mother of three children. The incident occurred near Lawrence Orr Elementary School in east Charlotte. Carlton's death was the result of a shooting, and the investigation led to the arrest of Montez Stephon McLaurin.
McLaurin was charged with Carlton's murder. He eventually pleaded guilty to the crime, accepting a plea deal that allowed him to avoid the death penalty.
Despite the plea deal, Carlton's family expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome, feeling that justice was not fully served. Amanda Hill, Carlton's mother, stated, "He better feel lucky that the lord has given him time to still breathe. My daughter doesn’t get to."
The case drew significant attention due to the circumstances of the shooting and the impact on Carlton's young family. The community and Carlton's loved ones continue to remember her and seek closure from the tragic event.
