Devon Daniel McGee, a 24-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on March 5, 2016, in Salisbury, North Carolina. Devon and his brother, Antoine Terrell McGee, were found shot behind the J.C. Price Legion building early that morning. The police were called to the scene at 1:44 a.m. in response to a fight at a party. Upon arrival, officers discovered the brothers in a field behind the building, both suffering from gunshot wounds. They were immediately flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where Devon succumbed to his injuries around 9 a.m. Antoine remained in critical condition.
The investigation into Devon McGee's death revealed that the incident was a homicide. Despite the ongoing efforts of the Salisbury Police Department, no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously. The J.C. Price Legion building, where the shooting occurred, has a history of violence, including a 2007 shooting that resulted in the death of 13-year-old Treasure Feamster.
Devon McGee was born on April 9, 1991, in Yonkers, New York, to Ms. Valerie McGee McMiller and Mr. Lavern Castle. He attended Salisbury High School and graduated from Yonkers High School. Devon was a member of the United House of Prayer for All People in Salisbury. He is survived by his parents, daughter Kemoni Sellers, brothers Joseph McGee, Antoine McGee, Dexter McGee, DeShawn Castle, Christopher McGee, and Tommy McGee, as well as sisters Sonya Sumpter and Temetria Thomas.
The police investigation into Devon McGee's murder is ongoing, with authorities continuing to seek leads and gather information. The community remains hopeful that justice will be served and that those responsible for this tragic loss will be held accountable.
