Kornell Marquis Cook, a 24-year-old male, tragically lost his life on August 27, 2017, in Salisbury, North Carolina. Cook was shot multiple times outside a family member's residence at the Brenner Crossing Apartment complex. The incident occurred around 8:35 p.m., and Cook was pronounced dead at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Following the shooting, the Salisbury Police Department launched an investigation.
Two suspects were quickly identified: Elija-wn Unique Oglesby, 18, and Xavier Dionne Lowe, 18. Oglesby turned himself in the day after the murder and was charged with first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property. Lowe, who was also charged with murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, remained at large for several months.
In January 2018, Travaree D’Von Miller, 18, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Cook's death. Miller was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under no bond. Lowe was eventually taken into custody in March 2018 in Davie County. Both Oglesby and Lowe faced serious legal consequences for their involvement in the crime.
The investigation into Cook's death highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Salisbury Police Department, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation. The case underscored the importance of community cooperation in solving violent crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
