Landon Roberts Henry, a 20-year-old male from Asheville, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on July 3, 2016. Born on June 29, 1996, in Atlanta, Georgia, Landon grew up in Asheville and was known for his athletic prowess, particularly in wrestling and lacrosse. He attended Christ School and graduated from Asheville High School in 2014, where he was a four-time Varsity Letterman and Team Captain of the wrestling team.
Landon was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed activities such as Frisbee golf, hiking, and spending time on the French Broad River.
On the early morning of July 3, 2016, Landon was fatally shot at an apartment on Orchard Road in North Asheville. The incident occurred in the apartment of a former neighbor, where Landon was accompanied by his girlfriend, Morgan Mikell. According to reports, a struggle ensued between Landon and the apartment's occupant, resulting in Landon being shot in the chest and arm. Despite Morgan's frantic 911 calls, Landon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Buncombe County District Attorney, Todd Williams, later announced that no charges would be filed against the shooter, citing North Carolina's "Castle Doctrine." This law allows residents to use deadly force in self-defense within their homes, workplaces, or motor vehicles if they fear imminent death or bodily harm. The investigation concluded that the struggle between Landon and the shooter occurred exclusively within the suspect's home, and the use of deadly force was deemed justified under the circumstances.
