Michelle Geniva Morgan, a 47-year-old African American woman, was found dead in her home in High Point, North Carolina, on August 27, 2016. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency workers pronounced her dead at the scene. The police were called to her residence at 1107 Cassell St. around 7:42 p.m. in response to an unknown trouble call.
Upon arrival, they discovered her body and detained a suspect who was present at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Carnell Tyrone Atkins, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Atkins was held in Guilford County Jail without bond. The investigation into the motive and circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
Michelle Geneva Morgan was born on June 6, 1969, in Winchester, Virginia. She was the daughter of Clarence Morgan Sr. and the late Dorothy Ann Brown. She worked in housekeeping at Greensboro Airport and was survived by her father, a daughter, two sons, a sister, and four brothers. Her mother, grandmother, nephew, and niece had all preceded her in death. A funeral service was held on September 8, 2016, at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home Chapel in Berryville, Virginia, followed by burial at Shenandoah Memorial Park in Winchester.
