Kenneth Bernard Edwards, a 23-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on December 3, 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kenneth was found dead from a gunshot wound on Roadway Street, marking the city's 81st homicide for that year. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and pronounced Kenneth deceased at the scene.
Nearly a year later, on September 5, 2018, three suspects were arrested in connection with Kenneth's
murder. Calvin Vance, 29, Naytrone Adams, 25, and Tobias Partlow, 29, were charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit a robbery with a dangerous weapon. The arrests were made after an extensive investigation by the CMPD, which included interviews and gathering evidence related to the case.
However, in September 2019, the District Attorney's Office decided to drop the murder charges against all three suspects. The charges were dismissed without leave and with no plea agreements made. This decision left Kenneth's family and friends without closure, as the individuals accused of his murder were released without facing trial.
