Trashon Alterrek Rhem, a 25-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on October 9, 2018, in Kinston, North Carolina. He was born on January 7, 1993, in Pitt County to Egbert Kirt Rhem and Christie Legail Wayne. Trashon Rhem was pronounced dead at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after sustaining life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound.
The incident occurred on the night of October 7, 2018, around 9:34 p.m. on South McDaniels Street in Kinston.
The Kinston Police Department responded to a report of a person shot and found Trashon Rhem suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was initially transported to UNC Lenoir Hospital and later transferred to Vidant Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the investigation, a 16-year-old suspect named Terrance D. Epps Jr. was identified and arrested in connection with the murder. Epps turned himself in to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office on October 9, 2018, after a warrant for his arrest was issued. He was charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation, and no motive has been provided for the shooting. The community continues to mourn the loss of Trashon Rhem, a young man whose life was cut short by this senseless act of violence.
