Montez Jerrel Garner, a 34-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on December 7, 2020, in Kinston, North Carolina. Garner's death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred at 2400 Beechnut Drive. Upon arrival, Lenoir County Sheriff's Deputies found Garner deceased from a gunshot wound. The incident led to the immediate arrest of Clayton Fernando Clark Jr., who was present at the scene.
Following the arrest, Clayton Fernando Clark Jr.
faced legal proceedings and ultimately took a plea deal for voluntary manslaughter. On October 7, 2022, Clark was sentenced to 51 to 64 months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections by Resident Superior Court Judge Imelda Pate. The plea deal and subsequent sentencing marked the conclusion of the legal case surrounding Montez Garner's death.
Garner's passing left a significant impact on his family and community. He was survived by his parents, Tywanda Garner and Demetrius Maurice Cobb, as well as his four children, Jackyle Stancil, Shymere Garner, Endia Brown, and Julian Garner.
