Ryechic Harper, 31, a Black male, was shot late in the morning on October 28, 2025, after Kinston police were called to 405 Manning Street around 10:43 a.m. Officers found him with multiple gunshot wounds and, despite life-saving efforts, he died at the scene. Early accounts from police indicated the shooting unfolded on the city’s south side and that the victim and the alleged shooter knew one another.
Witness statements at the scene identified 21-year-old Quandarius Rawl as the gunman. Investigators said he fled before officers arrived, discarded a firearm in a wooded area near the 600 block of Pollock Street, then contacted 911 and voluntarily surrendered roughly 45 minutes later. Detectives later recovered the weapon and determined it had been reported stolen out of Rocky Mount. Rawl was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm.
As the investigation progressed, detectives alleged the killing was premeditated and orchestrated by siblings Quandarius Rawl and Davida Rawl to murder Davida’s ex-spouse, Ryechic Harper. On October 30, 2025, authorities arrested Davida Rawl and charged her with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Police said the case remains active and additional charges could follow.
