Mark Jefferson Furey, a 57-year-old white male, was found shot to death on February 9, 2019, in Stony Point, North Carolina. The incident occurred at the residence of Chad Lee Kennedy, a 38-year-old white male, located on Mount Wesley Church Road. Both men were discovered with multiple gunshot wounds inside a mobile home. The Alexander County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Chris Bowman, launched an investigation into the double homicide.
Following a month-long investigation, authorities arrested three suspects in connection with the murders. Robert Bryan Hoover, a 36-year-old white male from Stony Point, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Adam Thomas Morgan, a 20-year-old white male from Stony Point, also faced two counts of first-degree murder. Brandy Lynn Miller, a 28-year-old white female from Stony Point, was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact.
The investigation revealed that both victims were shot at close range, likely with a rifle. On March 15, 2019, detectives met with the District Attorney's Office to discuss the case, leading to the issuance of warrants for the suspects. Hoover and Miller were located and arrested in Smyth County, Virginia, while Morgan was apprehended in Taylorsville, North Carolina.
In subsequent legal proceedings, Hoover and Morgan both entered guilty pleas to two counts of second-degree murder. Hoover was sentenced to 292-363 months in prison, while Morgan received a sentence of 221-278 months. Miller's charges were reduced to obstruction of justice, and she was released from jail after serving time.
