Thomas Talucci, a 73-year-old man from Kings Mountain, NC, was found dead in his home on High Ridge Court on September 23, 2019. The incident was initially reported as a welfare check after items belonging to Talucci were found in a car that transported a wounded man, Jerry Childers, to the hospital. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Talucci's home had been ransacked, and his body was found inside.

The investigation revealed that Talucci had been helping Kristen Price, a woman he had befriended and hired to do chores around his house. Price, along with Robert Moore Dover and Jerry Childers, allegedly conspired to rob Talucci. During the robbery, a violent altercation ensued, and Talucci was shot and killed. Price and Dover transported Childers, who was also injured, to the hospital.

All three suspects were charged with first-degree murder. Dover, with a history of felony breaking and entering and larceny, and Price, with prior convictions for simple assault and drug paraphernalia possession, were arrested and held without bond. Childers, who was indicted on first-degree murder charges two months after the incident due to his injuries, faced a more complicated legal journey.

The case highlighted the tragic end of a man known for his willingness to help others, as described by his friends and colleagues. The legal proceedings continued for years, with plea deals and sentences being handed down to the involved parties. The investigation remains a somber reminder of the consequences of criminal actions and the impact on victims and their families.
