Kareem Jenkins, a 38-year-old African American male, was found dead on December 1, 2019, in Greenville, North Carolina. The Greenville Police Department responded to a call about a shooting at 111 Paris Avenue, Unit A, around 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Jenkins with an apparent gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, Jenkins succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The investigation revealed that Jenkins was targeted, and robbery was likely the motive behind the
shooting. Several individuals were present in the home at the time of the incident, but no one else was injured. The police quickly identified suspects and made arrests in connection with the case.
Javon Marquise Howard, a 21-year-old male from Greenville, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy. Howard was apprehended by members of the Greenville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, and Emergency Response Team. He is currently being held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center.
In addition to Howard, another suspect, 21-year-old Zaquan Dickens, also from Greenville, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy. Dickens was taken into custody by the same law enforcement teams and is also being held at the Pitt County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation, with detectives continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses. The Greenville Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
