Derron Jordan, a 31-year-old African American male, was fatally shot on December 28, 2019, in Concord, North Carolina. The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Lincoln Street and Polk Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Derron Jordan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
The Concord Police Department identified 16-year-old Omarionne Tymyrre Hudson as the primary suspect in the shooting.
Hudson, who was on probation for a previous carjacking incident, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Derron Jordan's death. The authorities described Hudson as armed and dangerous and advised the public not to approach him. The U.S. Marshals eventually captured Hudson in Connecticut, and he was taken into custody.
The investigation revealed that Hudson had a history of criminal behavior, including stealing a car and breaking into another vehicle to steal a gun. Despite his criminal record, Hudson was sentenced to 30 months of probation in September 2019. The carjacking victim, Jennifer Dominguez, expressed her frustration with the court system, stating that if Hudson had been incarcerated for his previous crimes, Derron Jordan's murder might have been prevented.
In a tragic twist, less than an hour after Derron Jordan's death, his 13-year-old cousin, Avenanna Propst, was also fatally shot outside a Dave & Buster's at Concord Mills Mall. The Concord Police Department released surveillance images of a person of interest in Avenanna's shooting, and 18-year-old Dontae Laquavious Milton-Black was later arrested and charged with first-degree murder and felony riot in connection with her death. The two incidents, occurring so close in time and location, left the community in shock and mourning.
