William Springer, a 35-year-old man from Wilmington, North Carolina, was fatally shot near the 1100 block of Castle Street just before 2 a.m. on December 29, 2019. Officers nearby heard the shots and found Springer, initiating life-saving measures until EMS arrived. Unfortunately, Springer later succumbed to his injuries. The Wilmington Police Department has been actively seeking information to solve this case, offering a reward of up to $2,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
Springer had a complicated history with the law. He was previously charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and being a felon in possession of a firearm in relation to the February 2017 fatal shooting of Montreal Holmes. However, in September 2019, District Attorney Ben David dismissed the murder charge against Springer after witnesses recanted their statements or became otherwise uncooperative.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with Springer's death. The Wilmington Police Department continues to ask for the community's help in solving this case, urging anyone with information to contact them.
