Ronald Callanan Jr., a 44-year-old man, was fatally shot while sitting in a car near downtown Durham, North Carolina, on January 6, 2020. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Gray Avenue near North Alston Avenue. According to the Durham Police Department, Callanan was sitting in the passenger's seat when two to three individuals approached the vehicle and opened fire. The suspects, who were armed with handguns, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Callanan was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation revealed that at least 20 shell casings were found in the middle of the street, and multiple bullet holes were discovered in the driver's side door and back windshield of the car.
