Kentrell Haddock, a 20-year-old Black male from Greenville, North Carolina, lost his life to gun violence on March 6, 2020. He lived at an address on Brown Place Drive at the time of his death.
On that Friday afternoon, shortly after 2 p.m., the Greenville Police Department received a Shot Spotter alert for gunfire in the 400 block of Pittman Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, a neighborhood near J.H. Rose High School, they discovered Kentrell in the front yard of a residence.
He had died from an apparent gunshot wound.
Detectives immediately began investigating the homicide. From the early stages, they believed the shooting was a targeted incident and that Kentrell likely knew the person or people responsible. Their investigation led to the arrests of two individuals. Jamoni Keion Edwards was charged with an open count of murder, probation violations, and interference with an electronic device. A second person, 20-year-old Briana Lanay McLaurin of Aurora, was charged with accessory after the fact.
In June 2025, Jamoni Edwards entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter for his role in Kentrell Haddock's death. A judge sentenced him to serve two to three years and two months in prison, with credit for 401 days already spent in jail.
