Brianna Sue Stephenson, a 19-year-old female from Charlotte, NC, tragically passed away on March 9, 2020. She was born on November 6, 2000, in Washington Court House. Brianna was the daughter of Brandy Wynn and Troy Stephenson. She is survived by her siblings and grandparents.
On March 8, 2020, Brianna was shot twice while sitting in the passenger seat of her car on Freedom Drive in Charlotte. She succumbed to her injuries the following day.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department launched an investigation into her murder, which led to the arrest of 18-year-old Christopher Chisholm. Chisholm was already in jail on unrelated charges when he was charged with Brianna's murder.
The case took a significant turn when the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office announced the dismissal of charges against Chisholm due to a lack of forensic evidence linking him to the crime scene. Despite the dismissal, Chisholm remains incarcerated on other charges, including possession of a stolen firearm, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and assaulting a government official.
Brianna's family continues to seek justice for her untimely death. Her grandmother, Donna DeBusk, believes that Brianna was not the intended target and that the shooter had a conflict with the person accompanying her. The community remains hopeful that new evidence or witnesses will come forward to help solve the case and bring closure to Brianna's loved ones.
