Christion Armani Threatt, a 21-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on June 17, 2020, in Monroe, North Carolina. Christion was found dead inside a warehouse where he worked, having been shot multiple times. The Monroe Police Department responded to a call at Darnell Inc. on Airport Road around 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Christion's lifeless body along with eight 9-millimeter shell casings near him.
The investigation revealed that Christion was at his workstation when his coworker, Kendrick Reid, returned from a break, approached him, and opened fire. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Kendrick Reid, who had only been working at Darnell Inc. for a few weeks through a staffing agency, fled the scene immediately after the shooting. The Monroe Police Department, in collaboration with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office, apprehended Reid the following morning in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. During the arrest, deputies seized a firearm believed to be the weapon used in the shooting. Reid was charged with first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied building. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.
Christion Threatt's untimely death has left his family, friends, and community in mourning. He was remembered for his gentle spirit, infectious smile, and love for animals. Christion graduated from Monroe High School in 2016 and enjoyed playing basketball, spending time with his fiancée, Ta'sjah Williams, and making memories with his loved ones. His passing has highlighted the need for communities to come together and address the root causes of such senseless acts of violence.
