During the trial, it was argued that Rashawn Harwell brandished a gun and attempted to provoke a fight with Watson. The legal proceedings that followed saw Rashawn Harwell, 29, convicted of second-degree murder. He was sentenced to a minimum of 207 months and a maximum of 261 months in prison. His co-defendants, Larry Harwell, 32, and Taylor Jones, 30, were also found guilty of second-degree murder in March 2023. Larry Harwell received a sentence of 207 to 261 months, while Jones was sentenced to 239 to 298 months in prison.

Additionally, shoes and clothes matching the surveillance footage were discovered in Rashawn Harwell's home.
