Jalisa B. Bellamy, a 31-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on December 25, 2020, in Wilmington, North Carolina. On Christmas Eve, Bellamy attended a gathering at a friend's house, where she seemed happy and enjoyed the company of her friends. However, minutes after leaving the party, Wilmington Police Department officers found the car Bellamy was driving crashed into a utility pole near Kenwood and Market streets.
Both Bellamy and her passenger, 35-year-old Jeremy Williams, had been shot. Williams, who is the father of Bellamy's 2-year-old son, was treated at the hospital and released, while Bellamy succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The incident is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made in connection with Bellamy's death. The shooting marks the 21st homicide in Wilmington for the year 2020, with five of the homicides being drive-by shootings. The Wilmington Police Department has not provided any new information regarding the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Bellamy was remembered by her friends and family as a classy and sophisticated woman who loved to laugh, sing, and dance. She was an active member of her church and had recently started posting motivational videos on her Facebook page that focused on her faith.
